Knee pain, also known as gonalgia, can have many causes, due to the multitude of structures involved.
These structures include the following:
- Bones and their cartilage (femur, tibia, fibula, patella…)
- Ligaments (anterior and posterior cruciates, collaterals…)
- Tendons (patellar, quadricipital…)
- Muscles (quadriceps, popliteus, hamstrings…)
- Menisci (internal and external)
All these structures are, of course, subject to ageing, and will often become brittle in the event of an accident or lack of use.
To avoid weakening this key joint over the long term, it is recommended that proper medical care be taken following an injury.
